Through an immersive week-long workshop, this intensive course is designed for those ready to deepen their journey into the world of Kinbaku. Building on foundational techniques, we’ll dive into the intricacies of suspension and explore the art of dynamic, organic, and minimalist play.
This workshop is ideal for individuals who already did the first week or have some experience with my style.
What We’ll Explore
Refining Foundational Rope Work
We’ll begin by solidifying the basics, ensuring you’re equipped with the skills needed for advanced practice. This includes perfecting rope & body handling, and patterns like the Gote, Mae, enzo… These elements will serve as stepping stones toward mastering suspension techniques.
The Six Suspensions
The centerpiece of this workshop is my six signature suspensions. We’ll explore these techniques in depth, covering their structure, purpose, and adaptability:
- Arisue’s Go Yokotsuri (Side Suspension)
- Ryo-Ashi-Tsuri (two legs together)
- Agura-Tsuri (cross-legged position)
- Futomomo-Tsuri (compact folded leg)
- Ashi-Kubi-Tsuri (ankle’s Suspension)
- Gyaku-Ebi-tsuri (Inverted shrimp)
Movement, Organic Flow, and Minimalism
These elements are at the core of my Kinbaku philosophy. You’ll learn how to create dynamic movement within ties, craft organic and flowing transitions, and embrace a minimalist approach that focuses on connection and intent.
Play Styles and Techniques
We’ll delve into various play techniques that complement rope work, including body manipulation, rhythm, breath play, and emotional storytelling. Each session will encourage you to experiment with these elements in a way that aligns with your personal style and your partner’s needs.
The Role of the Model
A deep exploration of the model’s role is integral to this workshop. We’ll focus on structure, communication, adaptability, and how the model contributes to the emotional and physical dynamics of a session.
Philosophy and Creativity
Throughout the workshop, we’ll discuss the “why” behind each tie, inviting you to reflect on your creative intent. This is about more than technique—it’s about creating meaningful, functional, and beautiful art through rope.
Workshop Details
- Schedule: 1 PM to 6 PM daily, with breaks for rest and reflection.
- Materials: Each pair should bring a minimum of 8 ropes (7–8 meters), 6 carabiners, and any additional items such as blindfolds or bamboo sticks.
What to Expect
This is a structured yet adaptive space for learning and connection. Each day will include hands-on practice, demonstrations, and opportunities to explore creativity within the framework of safety and respect.
While the primary focus is on rigging, models are encouraged to fully engage, as this workshop is designed to benefit both sides of the rope. Optional switching opportunities will also be available for those who wish to experience both roles.
The Dojo Philosophy
This workshop embodies the philosophy of the dojo: a commitment to balance, responsibility, and the middle path. My goal is to create a space where you feel supported to learn and grow while maintaining safety, respect, and artistic integrity.
Let’s explore, learn, and create together in an environment of curiosity, respect, and artistry.
